MLB announces 2011 All Star Game ballot

You can start voting for the 2011 MLB All Star Game to select the players most deserving to represent their League. Fans are encouraged to vote for their All Stars, and voters can cast up to 25 votes online. You can cast your ALL Star Game Ballot now so don’t delay. In addition to voting, you can buy All Star Game tickets to see the results of thee voting live and in person. Tickets have been on sale for a few weeks now, so check out what’s out there. The 82nd Midsummer Classic is taking place at Phoenix’s Chase Field on Tuesday, July 12. Other festivities include the Home Round Derby, MLB Fanfest and plenty of parties and activities to check out. If you can’t get a ticket, or will be outside of the US, don’t despair, the 2011 All Star Game will be seen in more than 200 countries around the world.

“The launch of All-Star balloting today continues a special tradition for baseball fans around the world,” said Bud Selig MLB Commissioner. “The All-Star Game is a celebration of baseball, its players and its fans… We are looking forward to playing the summer’s greatest sporting event in Arizona for the first time ever.” Fans can buy All Star Game tickets at various locations online, including Ticketmaster, TicketLiquidator and StubHub.

Voting for the All Star Game is said to be the largest voting program in sports and is rivaled only by political elections in terms of size. In 2010 there were 21.1 million ballots submitted by eager baseball fans. In addition to voting online, you can also vote if you buy baseball tickets for any MLB game in the coming weeks. All Star Game sponsor Firestone will distribute ballots at the 30 MLB ballparks no later than May 30, as well as nearly 100 minor league ballparks. Voting for the All Star Game ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 30. And the All Star Game roster will be revealed to fans on TBS on Sunday, July 3, during the 2011 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show.

The American League team will have nine position players voted in, while the NL will only have 8. The remaining roster will be filled out by MLB baseball as well as the NL and AL mangers. The NL will be managed by Bruce Bochy, manager of the World Series champion San Francisco Giants, while the AL will be headed by Texas Rangers Manger Ron Washington. Additionally, fans will get another chance at one last vote to get the 25th player on the roster.

“Fans will cast their votes from a list of five players from each league over a four-day period, and the winners will be announced after the voting concludes on Thursday, July 7,” says the MLB press release. Last year, the Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto and the New York Yankees Nick Swisher were selected in this manner.

“It’s an opportunity for baseball fans in Phoenix and for the whole Southwest region to experience a week of unforgettable baseball,” said MLB business vice president Tim Brosnan. “But for the city of Phoenix and its people, it’s also an opportunity to show your city off, to show this beautiful city off, this beautiful ballpark off on a worldwide stage.”
